19 & 26 March 2017
During the long, cold winter nights, the ‘Forlimpopolese’ tradition wants that the master float-makers meet to set up, prepare and decorate maper mache floats.
The “godmother” of the festival, ‘la Vecchia’ (the Old Woman), will be leading the parade, which this year will be held on the two Sundays of the 19th and 26th of March.
At the end of the party, after a simulated trial, ’la Vecchia’, as tradition wants, is executed (sawn in half), in memory (as legend has it) of a sin she committed during the time of Lent: from her belly however toys and sweets spill out that will delight all children present.
A genuine town festival just as the local tradition teaches (the first news of this festival dates back, apparently to about 1547), where dressed up groups parade through together with the floats. A series of events such as a funfair, stalls, theater performances, tours of museums and collections, and much more is planned for throughout the week.
Free entrance with donation.
